System Requirements Imaris 10.0

Please contact Bitplane Support for help in choosing the appropriate hardware.

Please Note

Platform Windows

Windows 7 and 8 are no longer supported due to problems with graphic board drivers. If you still need old Windows versions, please use only cards and drivers from 2015 and earlier.

Server versions are not supported but if you use them on your own risk, please note that due to the multi-user capability of the included terminal server an Imaris Floating License Manager is required.

With all configurations, using a 4K or larger monitor at full resolution will reduce live interaction FPS.

Minimum System Requirements (for evaluation with small datasets only)

  • RAM: 8 GB
  • 3 GHz CPU (Intel or AMD) 4 Core with 64 bit support
  • Graphics: NVIDA Quadro P400 2 GB
  • Monitor: single 1280 x 1024 pixels up to dual 1920 x 1200
  • Mouse: 3 button wheel

Recommended System

  • RAM: 32-64 GB
  • 3.3 GHz CPU (Intel or AMD) 6 to 8 Cores
  • Graphics: NVIDA Quadro RTX 4000 8 GB
  • Multiple Fast Hard Disks or (SATA) SSDs
  • Monitor: single 1280 x 1024 pixels up to dual 1920 x 1200
  • Mouse: MX Master Mouse by Logitech (with thumb wheel)

High End System

  • RAM: 128-256 GB
  • 4 GHz CPU (Intel or AMD) 10-16 cores
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX A4000 16 GB
  • Multiple PCIe SSDs
  • Monitor: single 1280 x 1024 pixels up to dual 1920 x 1200
  • Mouse: MX Master Mouse by Logitech (with thumb wheel)

Platform MAC

  • 11.6 Big Sur
  • 12.5 Monterey
  • 13.0 Ventura

Imaris will not work at all on AMD dual GPU machines.

M1 SoC using computers are supported via Rosetta with good performance.

There is no GPU accelerated machine learning in Labkit but there is GPU accelerated deconvolution in ClearView available on Mac.

With all configurations, using a 4K or larger monitor at full resolution will reduce live interaction FPS.

Minimum System Requirements (for evaluation with small datasets only)

  • CPU: Apple M1 8 cores
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Graphics: Apple M1 8 GPU cores
  • Monitor: single 1440 x 900 pixels
  • Mouse: 3 button with scroll wheel
  • Current Apple offerings: Mac Mini

Recommended System

  • CPU: Apple M1 Ultra 20 cores
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • Graphics: Apple M1 Ultra 48 GPU cores
  • Monitor: single 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Mouse: MX Master Mouse by Logitech (with thumb wheel)
  • Current Apple offerings: Mac Studio M1

High End System

  • CPU: Intel with 3.3 GHz, 12 core

  • Mouse: MX Master Mouse by Logitech (with thumb wheel)
  • Current Apple offerings: Mac Pro Intel

ClearView Deconvolution

For ClearView Deconvolution NVIDA graphic cards are recommended. AMD cards will not be able to accelerate it, but you can use the CPU instead.

Up-to-date graphics card drivers are required for GPU-accelerated deconvolution.

On Apple M1 SoCs the performance is good.

Tested Graphics Accelerator Boards

Incompatible graphics boards often cause instability and lead to decreased Imaris performance. It is recommended to install and use the latest drivers specified on website(s) of the graphic board's vendor(s).

Multi-GPU solutions for graphics boards (SLI and Crossfire) are NOT supported.

Imaris ClearView supports CUDA, CPU based processing and OpenCL (OpenCL on macOS only). It shows best performance on CUDA. CUDA needs an NVIDIA driver of version 411.31 (date 2018.9.27) or later. CUDA is not available on macOS but OpenCL is used instead.

The Nvidia Geforce Boards work but have slower graphics. The professional Nvidia boards are recommended for remote access. If you go for a high-end graphic board (no matter gaming or professional) please be sure your machine has a strong enough power supply and it fits physically into the case.

Newer boards are shown on top of each list.

Tested in-house as working:

Other variants of the same series might work as well.

Professional Nvidia Boards

  • NVIDIA RTX A4000
  • NVIDIA RTX A2000
  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000
  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000
  • NVIDIA Quadro P6000
  • NVIDIA Quadro P4000
  • NVIDIA Quadro P3200
  • NVIDIA Quadro P2000
  • NVIDIA Quadro P1000
  • NVIIDA Quadro P600
  • NVIDIA Quadro M4000

Nvidia Game Boards

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

Professional AMD (on Mac Only) Boards

  • AMD Radeon Pro W5700X

Not working (not exhaustive list):

  • INTEL or AMD CPU based graphs
  • AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
  • NVIDIA Quadro NVS all series

If a graphics board is not listed here it does not mean that it works but it means Bitplane does not know.

Multi Core/Processor Support

Imaris has been expanding support for multi core/processor machines since version 6.2.0. Currently, most image processing functions are multithreaded. Tests are done with up to 12 cores where Imaris still scales nicely.

Matlab for XTensions

The Matlab XTensions (plugins) installed by default with Imaris only need Matlab and no additional Matlab Toolboxes. This XTensions are available as compiled (.exe) and not compiled (.m-file) versions. To run the compiled version a free Matlab Runtime is sufficient.

For the XTensions made available by the Imaris community on open.bitplane.com please check the prerequisites in the description of the XTension.
